Heavy Load

Officials at the state-run Cultural Center of the Philippines shut an art exhibit on Tuesday after it provoked heated debate as well as threats and hate mail for combining Christian symbols with phallic objects.

The decision by the center’s board of directors came a day after former first lady and art patron Imelda Marcos joined politicians and Roman Catholic church leaders in denouncing the exhibit.

The board said it made the decision because of “an increasing number of threats to persons and property,” including the artists and the cultural center staff.

It said the threats increased after critics vandalized an installation by removing a wooden penis from a poster depicting Jesus Christ.

The exhibit by contemporary Filipino artists including Mideo Cruz prompted heated debate about freedom of expression, with President Benigno Aquino II describing it as offensive to the 85 percent of Filipinos who are Christian like him.

God is asking even unto this very day. When do people will ever stop from likening Him to idols made of silver, gold, wood, stone, plastics or styrofoam?

Isa 46:1 Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your loads were heavy; they were a burden to the weary beast.

Isa 46:2 They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but themselves have gone into captivity.

Isa 46:3 Hearken to me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the birth, which are carried from the womb:

Isa 46:4 And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoary hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.

Isa 46:5 To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?

Either an art by an Artist or an idol by Roman Catholic church or any other religious belief, they are all the same and are offensive unto God.

Is 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
